N.B.T. Test in Tuberculosis

Abstract

|
Nitroblue tetrazolium(NBT) test has been widely used in histochemical studies of
various enzyme since Park et al. reported the first evidence of the clinical applicability
of N.B.T. test as a screening for the differentiation of bacterial infection from
non-bacterial disease. To determine whether the N.B.T test would be to diagnostic value
in patients suspected of having pulmonary tuberculosis, the present study was performed
using 40 healthy persons, 49 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis, and 33 patients
with inactive pulmonary tuberculosis in Hanil Hospital and SNUH.
The results were as follows :
1) The mean proportions of such N.B.T positive neutrophils were 5.90±2.66% in 40
healthy control group, 5.45±2.12% in 33 inactive pulmonary tuberculosis, and 5.75±
2.66% in active pulmonary tuberculosis.
2) The mean proportions of such N.B.T positive neutrophile with monocytes were 6.25
±2.77% in 40 healthy control group, 6.27±2.10% in 33 inactive pulmonary tuberculosis,
8.75±3.27% in 49 active pulmonary tuberculosis.
